The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed confidence in the readiness of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) after successfully conducting a mock accreditation exercise ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, monitored the exercise on Saturday and said the commission was satisfied with the performance of the accreditation machines.
“So far, I have visited four polling units. My assessment is that we are satisfied that the BVAS is working perfectly ahead of the election,” Amupitan said.
He explained that the mock accreditation was organised to test the commission’s equipment and identify any technical issues before election day.
“This is a mock accreditation, and its purpose is to ensure that our tools, particularly the BVAS, function effectively on election day,” he added.
During the exercise, INEC encountered an initial challenge involving the accreditation of old Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), but the issue was quickly resolved.
“As you have seen, both the old and new cards are now being successfully accredited. That is the essence of this exercise—to address such issues ahead of election day,” Amupitan stated.
According to him, the commission’s ICT department confirmed that the technical problem had been completely fixed.
The INEC chairman visited several polling units across Obokun, Egbedore, and Osogbo local government areas to assess the exercise firsthand.
The mock accreditation forms part of INEC’s preparations to ensure a smooth, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State.
