Three miners have been killed in another deadly attack by suspected gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, adding to the growing insecurity affecting communities across the state.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Thursday along the GSS Daffo Road, as the victims were returning from a mining site in Fubok, Daffo District.
According to sources, the gunmen opened fire on the miners, killing all three at the scene before fleeing.
The victims were identified as Maren Agom, 45, from Tadai Village in Manguna District, who was reportedly shot in the head; Joe Buba, 38, from Josho Village in Daffo District, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest; and Yellow, whose surname and age were not immediately confirmed.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Alheri Medical Centre, Daffo.
A community source, Peter Maju, said security agencies were immediately alerted after the attack and have launched efforts to track down those responsible.
He added that security personnel have also reinforced their presence in the area to prevent further attacks.
The latest killings come amid a series of violent attacks in Bokkos and other parts of Plateau State, where several communities have repeatedly come under assault despite ongoing security operations.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident, as attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful.
