Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the construction of new roads across Abuja is attracting increased real estate development, with investors rapidly building along newly opened road corridors.
Wike made the remarks on Friday after inspecting the ongoing construction of the access road linking the FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura District to Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa.
The project includes the construction of a collector road, two major local streets and a minor access road designed to improve connectivity and ease movement within the fast-growing districts.
According to the minister, improved road infrastructure is already delivering economic benefits by encouraging private investment, creating jobs and opening up new areas for development.
“Real estate developers are taking advantage of the roads we are constructing. You can already see buildings springing up along these corridors,” Wike said.
He described the project as strategically important, noting that it would improve accessibility, transform the area’s landscape and stimulate economic activities in surrounding communities once completed.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, revealing that significant progress had been made since his last inspection, particularly with the completion of the bridge that forms part of the project.
He disclosed that although the initial phase of the road ends at the newly completed bridge, the contractor has now been directed to extend it to Oladipo Diya Way to make the project more impactful.
“I have put big pressure on them that it will be very appropriate to also include the extension so that it will be meaningful,” he said.
The minister added that the contractor remains committed to delivering the project by December, despite the additional work introduced through the planned extension.
He also assured the construction company of the FCT Administration’s continued support, promising prompt payment of outstanding funds to ensure the project stays on schedule.
“We are happy with the job they have carried out. We are going back to see that payments are made to them so they can expedite action,” Wike stated.
He expressed confidence that the completed road project would significantly improve the physical landscape of the area while supporting Abuja’s continued urban growth.
