The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug traffickers after uncovering a residential house used as a warehouse for storing large quantities of cannabis in Edo State.
The operation, carried out by the Edo State Command of the NDLEA in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, led to the discovery of a four-bedroom bungalow in Illushi Community, Esan South East Local Government Area, where the illegal drugs were stored.
According to the Edo State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, officers recovered 1,359 kilograms of cannabis, including 1,273kg of skunk cannabis and 86kg of cannabis seeds.
The seizure also included 52 giant bags, three gallons of cannabis seeds, and one additional bag of cannabis seeds.
Two suspects identified as Ojore Onweze, 45, and George Agwumede, 30, were arrested during the operation.
Ofoyeju said Onweze was linked to 60kg of cannabis, while Agwumede was found in possession of 13kg.
The NDLEA boss condemned the use of residential buildings for storing illegal drugs, warning that such activities pose a serious threat to communities.
“The use of residential houses in stockpiling illicit drugs is dangerous and must be vehemently confronted by citizens. These enemies of the state must not be allowed to destroy our communities,” he said.
He described the operation as a major success, adding that it demonstrates the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across the state.
Ofoyeju also revealed that investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the operation and bring them to justice.
He thanked the Nigerian Army for its collaboration and urged residents to support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
“This fight is not just for NDLEA; it is a collective responsibility. Together, we can build a safer and healthier environment for current and future generations,” he added.
