Several residents, including women and children, are feared dead after suspected terrorists launched a deadly midnight attack on Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community while residents were asleep.
A security source told LEADERSHIP that the attackers struck under the cover of darkness, leaving multiple casualties in the village.
Human rights activist Steven Kefas, who first raised the alarm on his verified Facebook page, initially disclosed that at least 25 people were feared killed in the attack.
He later updated the casualty figure, claiming that the death toll had risen to 30 victims, including women, children and men.
“Death toll now put at 30. Thirty women, children and men slaughtered while innocently asleep in the midnight attack in Naridon village. One family lost six children. Some houses were also burnt by the Fulani terrorists,” Kefas wrote.
According to him, the attackers, suspected to be armed herdsmen, stormed the village at about 1:00 a.m. on Monday and opened fire indiscriminately on residents before setting some houses ablaze.
When contacted, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shu’aibu (SAN), said he had received reports of the incident but was awaiting official confirmation from security agencies.
“I received a call over the attack and I am waiting for security agencies to confirm. For now, I can’t confirm or deny the attack,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to officially confirm the casualty figure, while investigations and security operations were ongoing.
