The All Progressives Congress (APC) has marked the first anniversary of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman, praising his leadership for strengthening the party’s unity and expressing confidence that it is well-positioned to win the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Chairman’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Yusuf Dingyadi, the ruling party said Yilwatda had made significant progress in rebuilding the APC since assuming office during what it described as a difficult period in the party’s history.
According to the statement, the National Chairman quickly focused on reconciliation, consultation and institutional reforms aimed at restoring confidence among party members.
“Within one year of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda’s leadership, the APC has witnessed remarkable progress in strengthening internal democracy, fostering reconciliation among members and repositioning the party for greater electoral success,” the statement said.
The party also commended Yilwatda’s inclusive leadership style, saying it had improved cooperation among members of the National Working Committee (NWC), party elders and stakeholders across the country.
“The National Chairman has promoted an inclusive leadership style that has enhanced cooperation within the National Working Committee, party elders and stakeholders across the country, resulting in greater unity and renewed confidence in the party,” the statement added.
The APC said its efforts to reconcile aggrieved members had restored internal harmony, while reforms introduced at the party’s National Secretariat had improved transparency, accountability and administrative efficiency.
“Our National Secretariat is now operating with improved efficiency, transparency and accountability, while party structures at the ward, local government and state levels have been revitalised to better serve our members,” the statement noted.
The party further stated that it had expanded its engagement with young people, women, persons with disabilities and grassroots supporters, strengthening its structures nationwide.
It also credited the growing acceptance of the APC to the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, arguing that the administration’s economic reforms are beginning to produce positive results despite current challenges.
“While we acknowledge the temporary economic challenges facing Nigerians, we are convinced that the reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth, improved infrastructure and shared prosperity,” the statement said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the APC expressed optimism that the progress made under Yilwatda’s leadership would translate into electoral success.
“The achievements recorded within the last one year have further strengthened our resolve to consolidate on these gains. The APC is united, focused and fully prepared to seek a renewed mandate from Nigerians in 2027,” the party stated.
The ruling party also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting its vision for national development.
“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with the APC as we continue to build a stronger, more prosperous and inclusive nation. Our doors remain open to all citizens who share our vision for national development and democratic governance,” the statement concluded.
