Former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has dismissed claims made by a former Department of State Services (DSS) operative, Mr. Amachree, about the circumstances surrounding Abacha’s death, describing the account as false and misleading.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, Al-Mustapha rejected the version of events contained in Amachree’s recently published book, insisting that it did not reflect what actually happened.
According to him, the former DSS officer was influenced by others to write the controversial account.
“The boy was asked to write the lies by others. I have all the CCTV footages of what happened in my custody, so what he said are not true,” Al-Mustapha said.
He maintained that he possesses evidence capable of contradicting the claims made in the publication and urged Nigerians not to believe the story.
“Just ignore his lies. It’s bad to say such things on someone that is dead,” he added.
In the book, the former DSS officer alleged that General Sani Abacha died during a private encounter with a woman at the Aso Rock Guest House in the early hours of the morning.
According to Amachree, the woman later became frightened after discovering that the late military ruler was unresponsive and subsequently left the residence before the incident was reported.
He further claimed that the woman was later traced and questioned by security officials.
“I did not kill him, he died on top of me,” Amachree quoted the woman as allegedly telling him during interrogation.
However, Al-Mustapha has strongly denied the account, insisting that the version presented in the book is untrue and should not be accepted as fact.
His response comes amid renewed public debate over the circumstances surrounding the death of General Sani Abacha, who died on June 8, 1998, while serving as Nigeria’s Head of State.
