The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed a viral letter circulating on social media and allegedly written by the former governor, describing it as fake and urging Nigerians to ignore it.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family, the document, titled “Urgent Message” and dated July 14, 2026, was said to have no connection whatsoever with the former governor.
According to the statement, the letter, which was purportedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), did not originate from El-Rufai.
“The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled ‘Urgent Message’,” the statement read.
The family maintained that neither the contents nor the handwriting in the document belonged to El-Rufai.
“Neither the poor content nor the handwriting has anything to do with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai,” the statement added.
The family further alleged that those behind the letter were attempting to create confusion and division through misinformation.
“The fake letter shows another resort to desperation by Mallam’s traducers who seek to sow confusion and division. Their attempt at politics by fakery should be dismissed and condemned,” the statement said.
The viral document reportedly questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna State, claiming his emergence had sparked internal disagreements because he allegedly failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline.
The letter also reportedly called on the party’s national and state leadership to review the nomination process.
However, El-Rufai’s family insisted the document was fabricated and urged the public not to give it any credibility.
The development comes amid growing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with political parties and key figures attracting increased public attention.
