The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, was arrested over the ongoing investigation into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare clarified that Gbajabiamila was not arrested, explaining that he voluntarily honoured an invitation from investigators and left after answering questions.
“He was not arrested; he simply willingly honoured an invitation,” the commission stated.
According to the anti-graft agency, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives arrived at its Abuja headquarters on Tuesday, met with investigators as part of the ongoing probe, and departed shortly afterwards.
The commission added that investigations into the PFIPC controversy are still ongoing and promised to provide further updates when necessary.
On Monday, Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed that his client had appeared before the ICPC to respond to questions relating to the alleged scandal.
The investigation follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive on July 2, ordering the ICPC to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter and submit a detailed report within 30 days.
