The Ondo State Government has suspended 27 students from three public secondary schools in Akure over alleged acts of misconduct, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline in schools.
The affected students are from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas College, and CAC Grammar School.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the government said the students were suspended over gross misconduct and unruly behaviour, which violated the state’s Code of Conduct for public secondary schools.
According to the ministry, the decision followed repeated warnings and several meetings with school principals and other education stakeholders aimed at addressing rising cases of indiscipline.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Akindele Ige, also directed school authorities to strengthen supervision and enforce disciplinary measures to restore order in schools.
The ministry expressed concern over the increasing cases of bullying, fighting, truancy, and the circulation of indecent videos on social media, warning that such behaviour disrupts learning and damages the reputation of the state’s education system.
Under the suspension, the affected students have been barred from entering their schools or participating in any school activities until further notice.
Their cases will be reviewed by the respective school disciplinary committees in collaboration with the ministry before any further decision is taken.
The government also urged parents and guardians to take a more active role in monitoring their children’s behaviour, stressing that discipline is a shared responsibility between the home and the school.
It further warned that any student found guilty of bullying, fighting or other serious acts of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with established regulations.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe, disciplined and conducive learning environments across public schools in Ondo State.
