Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, is set to present the Federal Government’s three-year scorecard on education reforms under President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 Education Summit in Abuja.
The summit, organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN), will bring together policymakers, education experts, development partners and other stakeholders to assess the progress, achievements and challenges of the education sector since the Tinubu administration took office in May 2023.
Scheduled to hold on Wednesday at the Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja, the event is themed: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”
According to a statement by ECAN Chairman, Chux Ukwuatu, the summit will provide a platform for stakeholders to evaluate the impact of the administration’s education policies and discuss ways to strengthen the sector.
“The summit will bring together policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners and media professionals to assess the impact of the Tinubu administration’s education reforms and explore strategies for addressing the sector’s remaining challenges,” Ukwuatu said.
The Minister of Education is expected to officially declare the summit open, while participants will include government officials, education agencies, school administrators, researchers, civil society organisations, student groups and media professionals.
Beyond policy discussions, the summit will also honour individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to education and human capital development in Nigeria.
Over the past three years, the Federal Government has introduced several reforms in the education sector, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), curriculum reviews, digital learning initiatives, nationwide learning assessments and reforms aimed at improving technical and vocational education.
The government has also taken steps to reduce the number of out-of-school children, strengthen quality assurance in schools and promote research and innovation through partnerships with agencies such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The summit is expected to provide one of the most comprehensive assessments of these reforms while identifying areas that require further attention.
