The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused a group led by Nafiu Bala Gombe of using forged documents allegedly linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to falsely claim it uploaded the names of a presidential candidate and other nominees to the commission’s nomination portal.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the claim as false and called on INEC to investigate what it believes is the unauthorised use of documents capable of misleading the public and damaging the commission’s credibility.
According to the ADC, only the leadership officially recognised by INEC has access to the party’s nomination portal and can submit candidates for elections.
The party argued that INEC does not issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to rival factions, stressing that no political party can receive multiple nomination codes for the same election.
“INEC does not issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to a leadership it does not recognise,” the party stated.
The ADC also challenged those behind the alleged upload to provide evidence proving they successfully submitted candidates through the commission’s portal.
Describing the development as an attempt to create confusion, the party maintained that there is no leadership crisis within its ranks and insisted that its nomination process was completed in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
The party further reaffirmed that the names of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, had already been uploaded to the INEC portal through the recognised party leadership.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, the ADC said it expects more attempts to distract the party but remains focused on presenting what it described as a credible alternative to Nigerians.
It also urged party members, supporters and the general public to disregard unofficial reports and rely only on information released through its authorised communication channels.
