The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,300 personnel across Edo State ahead of Saturday’s local government election, assuring residents of adequate security before, during and after the polls.
Speaking during a press briefing in Benin City, the Edo State Commandant, Akintayo Ayinla, said the deployment is aimed at protecting lives, property and critical national infrastructure throughout the election. According to him, officers will be stationed across the state’s three senatorial districts, with special attention given to polling units, collation centres and identified flashpoints.
“The Edo State Command has concluded all necessary security arrangements ahead of the forthcoming local government election. We are fully prepared to ensure that lives and property, as well as critical national assets, are protected before, during and after the election,” Ayinla said.
The Commandant urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to obey electoral laws and avoid violence or any form of electoral malpractice.
He also assured voters that the NSCDC is working closely with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful, free and credible election across all 18 local government areas of the state.
“Voters should come out and exercise their civic responsibility without fear,” he added.
The Edo State local government election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 11.
