The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s aviation industry by supporting local airlines to acquire newer, safer and more fuel-efficient aircraft through stronger partnerships with leading global aircraft manufacturers.
The assurance was given by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during a working visit to Bombardier’s Laurent Beaudoin Completion Centre in Montréal, Canada, alongside a delegation of Nigerian airline operators and aviation stakeholders.
According to Keyamo, the Federal Government is focused on creating opportunities that will help indigenous airlines expand their fleets, improve safety standards and boost operational efficiency.
“Our objective has always been clear: to connect Nigerian operators directly with the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers and create opportunities that will strengthen indigenous capacity, modernise our fleets, improve safety, enhance operational efficiency and ensure the long-term sustainability of our aviation industry,” he said.
The visit marks the completion of the government’s engagement with the world’s major aircraft manufacturers, including Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier, as part of efforts to improve aircraft financing, strengthen maintenance capabilities and enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian airlines.
The government said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of repositioning Nigeria as Africa’s preferred aviation hub through strategic international partnerships, private-sector collaboration and sustainable aviation reforms.
The minister was accompanied by top aviation officials, including the heads of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), alongside other industry stakeholders.
