Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia says President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms have improved the state’s finances, enabling his administration to expand infrastructure, strengthen healthcare and revive key sectors of the economy.
Speaking during a media briefing at the State House, Abuja, Alia said increased allocations from the Federation Account have significantly enhanced Benue’s ability to fund development projects and meet financial obligations.
“One of the most visible outcomes of the reforms has been the significant increase in allocations to states from the Federation Account,” Alia said.
According to the governor, the improved revenue has helped the state clear years of outstanding salaries and pension arrears inherited from previous administrations.
Alia disclosed that his administration has rehabilitated about 550 kilometres of roads and reconstructed over 422 kilometres, especially in rural and suburban communities.
He also said several primary healthcare centres have been upgraded, improving access to quality healthcare and attracting patients from neighbouring states.
On economic development, the governor revealed that the state is reviving abandoned government-owned industries, including Food Basket Breweries, the Bensona Juice and Concentrate Factory, and the Taraku Mill.
He added that agriculture remains central to Benue’s economic recovery, with farmers receiving free fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides and subsidised tractors to boost food production.
Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability while urging residents to remain patient as the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms continues to unfold.
