A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has completed a 144-hour Guinness World Records (GWR) attempt for the longest marathon reading of the Holy Bible, marking the end of a six-day journey dedicated to faith and endurance.
Habibat completed the challenge on June 29 after reading the Bible continuously for 144 hours, following Guinness World Records guidelines, which allow participants only limited breaks for essential needs.
The record attempt, tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” began on June 22 at the Novotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and was designed not only to pursue a world record but also to encourage Christians to develop a deeper relationship with God’s Word.
According to friends and supporters who shared updates on social media, the initiative was inspired by a desire to promote consistent Bible study and inspire believers worldwide.
They revealed that Habibat’s journey towards the record began in June 2022, following years of preparation, discipline and spiritual commitment.
A member of Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, Habibat successfully completed the marathon under the official rules of Guinness World Records, which require participants to read aloud continuously throughout the attempt.
Speaking on the achievement, the Senior Pastor of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, Dr. Andy Osakwe, described the exercise as more than an attempt to break a world record.
“This is more than the pursuit of a Guinness World Record. It is a spiritual assignment aimed at exalting the Word of God and inspiring believers to engage more deeply with the Scriptures,” he said.
Habibat’s attempt comes after Guinness World Records officially recognised Nigerian Samson Ajao in 2024 for setting the world’s longest marathon reading aloud after reading continuously for 215 hours, surpassing the previous record of 124 hours.
Although Habibat has completed the challenge, her performance will now undergo the official verification process before Guinness World Records can confirm and certify the achievement.
