Manchester City have officially announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager following the departure of long-serving boss Pep Guardiola.
The Italian coach has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029, marking his return to a club where he previously enjoyed success as both a coach and assistant manager.
Maresca is no stranger to Manchester City. He led the club’s Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title in 2021 before serving as Guardiola’s assistant between 2022 and 2023, helping the club during one of its most successful periods.
To complete the move, City will reportedly pay more than €20 million in compensation to Chelsea, where Maresca left by mutual consent despite having three years remaining on his contract.
Speaking after his appointment, the 45-year-old expressed his excitement about returning to the Etihad.
“Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me,” Maresca said.
He praised the club’s structure and long-term vision, describing it as an ideal environment for any manager.
“City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation.”
Maresca also thanked the club for trusting him with the role.
“This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I know the demands and I know the expectations. The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special.”
The Italian now faces the challenge of building on Guardiola’s remarkable legacy after the Spaniard ended his 10-year reign, during which he guided Manchester City to more than 20 major trophies.
