Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah says lasting peace and security remain the foundation for attracting investments and driving economic growth across the South-East.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Presidential Media Team in Enugu, Mbah said his administration made security a top priority because investors are unlikely to commit resources to an unsafe environment.
“If we don’t get security right, it will be almost impossible to attract the level of investment we expect to happen here,” Mbah said.
According to the governor, his administration has invested heavily in technology-driven security, including AI-powered surveillance cameras, a Distress Response Squad (DRS), and closer collaboration with security agencies to tackle crime and restore confidence.
Mbah explained that the improved security situation has helped the state pursue its broader vision of growing Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years.
He also highlighted ongoing investments in healthcare, education, tourism, aviation and infrastructure, describing them as key pillars of the state’s economic transformation.
On education, the governor said Enugu has built hundreds of smart schools, introduced 12 years of free and compulsory education, and continues to train teachers in digital and practical learning methods.
Mbah also credited President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms for giving states more resources to execute development projects, saying the administration’s policies have enabled Enugu to implement projects on a larger scale.
