Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and PDP leader, Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prepare for a tough political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that political power must be won through determination and hard work.
Speaking at the party’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike told party members that no political party regains power through entitlement, stressing that victory comes through sacrifice, resilience and grassroots mobilisation.
“Nobody gives power. Power is taken. You must fight for it.”
Drawing from his political experience, the former Rivers State governor encouraged aspirants not to be discouraged by intimidation, arrests or legal battles, saying such challenges are often part of the political process.
Wike also dismissed concerns over pending court cases involving the party, expressing confidence that the PDP remained on track with its preparations for the 2027 elections.
He urged party members to contribute meaningfully to the party’s success by delivering electoral victories in their respective constituencies instead of making excuses.
“Don’t come here with empty hands. Go home and bring results in 2027.”
The FCT minister further called on members to remain united despite internal disagreements, expressing optimism that the PDP would remain a major force in Nigeria’s political landscape after the next general election.
Meanwhile, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed appealed for unity among members, while Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa urged party faithful to put primary election contests behind them and work together ahead of 2027.
Both leaders stressed that reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation and voter registration would be crucial to the party’s electoral success.
