Suspected terrorists believed to be members of the Lakurawa group have attacked security checkpoints in Niger State, targeting both immigration and police personnel along the Mokwa–New Bussa road.
The attack reportedly occurred in Zugurma, Mashegu Local Government Area, causing panic among residents and prompting an immediate security response.
According to security sources, the gunmen blocked the highway before launching an assault on a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in the area.
During the operation, the attackers allegedly overpowered security personnel and carted away an AK-47 rifle belonging to an immigration officer.

The terrorists were also said to have targeted a nearby police outpost during the incident.
However, authorities confirmed that officers stationed at the facility escaped without injuries despite the attack.
Security officials further disclosed that no cases of kidnapping or abduction were recorded during the operation.
Following the incident, security agencies intensified efforts to restore normalcy and track down those responsible for the attack.
“Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the attackers.”
Residents have also been assured of increased patrols and enhanced security operations across the affected area to prevent future attacks.
The latest incident highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of Niger State as authorities continue efforts to combat armed groups operating within the region.
