The Anambra State Government has approved projects worth ₦640 million and rolled out a series of reforms aimed at addressing erosion, improving education, strengthening healthcare services and boosting economic development.
The decisions were reached during the latest meeting of the State Executive Council chaired by Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Awka.
According to the government, the new measures are part of efforts to promote sustainable development, improve public services and enhance the quality of life for residents across the state.
“The State Executive Council reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development through new resolutions and projects.”
One of the major concerns raised at the meeting was the growing threat of erosion, which the government described as one of the state’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Authorities blamed the problem on activities such as poor drainage systems, construction on flood channels and indiscriminate tree felling.
To address the situation, the government announced plans to strengthen the enforcement of environmental laws, including regulations requiring households to construct catch pits to control surface runoff.
The Council also reaffirmed its commitment to key social welfare programmes, including free education and free antenatal and delivery services for pregnant women.
In addition, the government approved a new school adoption initiative that will allow individuals and private organizations to support the development of public schools across the state.
As part of the approvals, ₦237 million was allocated for the remodeling of Afouzo Market in Isuofia, while ₦402.83 million was approved for the supply of medicines and related services under the state’s free maternal healthcare programme.
The government said the projects and reforms align with Governor Soludo’s vision of building a more prosperous, environmentally sustainable and economically vibrant Anambra State.
