The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, son of former Kano governor and political heavyweight Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made on Monday by Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, spokesman of the Kwankwassiya Movement, who confirmed the development in a statement.
According to the statement, Mustapha Kwankwaso has officially been unveiled as Gwarzo’s deputy governorship candidate ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 polls.
Mustapha Kwankwaso, a businessman and politician, is expected to bring additional political strength to the NDC ticket, given his family’s long-standing influence in Kano politics and the popularity of the Kwankwassiya political movement across the state.
Political observers believe the choice could play a significant role in shaping alliances and voter support as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.
With the unveiling of the running mate, the NDC has now taken another major step in positioning itself for what is expected to be a fiercely contested governorship race in Kano State.
