The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed confidence in its preparedness for the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election after a successful mock accreditation exercise using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the exercise demonstrated that the commission’s technology and logistics arrangements are fully ready for the June 20 poll.
The mock accreditation, conducted in selected areas including Ado Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti, was designed to test the efficiency of the BVAS machines ahead of election day.
According to Amupitan, the devices performed effectively, with voter authentication through fingerprints and facial recognition taking only a few seconds on average.
He explained that the commission deliberately monitored activities on the ground rather than relying solely on reports, adding that the outcome confirmed the strength of INEC’s systems against identity fraud and result manipulation.
The INEC chairman also disclosed that backup BVAS machines and technical support teams have been stationed across the state to quickly address any technical issues that may arise during the election.
On result transmission, he assured voters that only verified results would be uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), stressing that network challenges in some areas would not compromise the credibility of the process.
Amupitan further stated that all logistics have been finalized to ensure polling units open simultaneously across the state by 8:30 a.m. on election day.
He added that INEC has worked closely with security agencies, including the police, DSS and Civil Defence, to guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, observers and journalists throughout the exercise.
With the successful BVAS test and security arrangements in place, the electoral body says it is fully prepared to conduct a transparent, credible and peaceful governorship election in Ekiti State.
