A tragic incident has rocked Oda Community in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State after a 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, was arrested for allegedly assaulting his 65-year-old father, Adone Peter, to death during a heated confrontation.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, the incident occurred on May 28 following a disagreement that reportedly escalated into violence. Investigators said the suspect allegedly attacked his biological father, leaving him with severe head injuries.
The elderly man was rushed to a medical facility for treatment, but sadly died while receiving care despite efforts to save his life. The incident was later reported to the police by another son of the deceased, identified as Daniel Moses, who is also the suspect’s brother.
Following the report, police detectives launched an investigation and arrested the suspect, who remains in custody. Authorities disclosed that the deceased’s body has been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged killing, describing it as a disturbing act that goes against societal values and family bonds. He assured residents that justice would take its course and urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
The suspect is expected to face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
