Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have rescued three abducted children and arrested two suspected child traffickers during a swift operation in Ekparakwa, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state.
The rescue followed a distress report received on Wednesday evening from a concerned resident who alerted authorities about the suspected abduction of the children.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, detectives immediately swung into action, sealing off major entry and exit routes across the area in a coordinated effort to track down the suspects and safely recover the victims.
During the operation, officers intercepted a minibus and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of the three missing children inside the vehicle. The two suspects were arrested on the spot and taken into custody for further investigation.
The rescued children have since been reunited with their families, bringing relief to relatives and residents of the community.
Reacting to the successful operation, Commissioner of Police Baba Azare commended officers for their swift response and praised community members whose timely information helped prevent the children from being trafficked.
The police commissioner also directed a comprehensive investigation to uncover and arrest other members of the suspected trafficking syndicate, stressing that the command remains committed to combating child trafficking, abduction and other criminal activities across the state.
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies, assuring them that all credible tips would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
