Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho has claimed he knows the politicians allegedly backing the kidnappers responsible for the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, warning that he may publicly expose them if the attacks continue.
Speaking during a meeting with newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ibadan, Igboho alleged that certain politicians were providing financial and logistical support to criminal groups operating in the state.
According to him, the kidnappers are not invincible and can be driven out if security forces and local operatives are allowed to confront them directly.
“I know the politicians behind them. If they do not stop, I will mention their names. They are the ones giving them money and ammunition,” Igboho alleged.
The activist also claimed he had offered to help rescue the abducted pupils and teachers but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government. He said authorities later informed him that the kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims if he attempted to intervene.
“If I am allowed to enter the forest with my men, they will run away. They are not spirits; they are human beings,” he said.
Igboho further expressed frustration that his security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, has not been allowed to participate in rescue efforts despite what he described as federal approval for its operations.
He also linked the growing insecurity to what he called a broader political agenda aimed at destabilising President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that some individuals were deliberately working to make the country appear ungovernable.
“The same thing they did to Jonathan is what they are doing to Tinubu. They want to make the country ungovernable for him,” he claimed.
His comments come amid nationwide outrage over the abduction of dozens of students and teachers during attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has triggered protests and renewed calls for urgent action.
