Residents of a community in Ondo State were thrown into panic after armed men reportedly invaded the area in the early hours of Friday and kidnapped a nine-year-old boy.
The incident occurred at Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun Ido-Ani, located in Ose Local Government Area, where gunmen allegedly attacked homes while firing shots that sent residents fleeing for safety.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, the attackers forcefully entered the residence of Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac during the raid. In an attempt to escape the armed men, Isaac reportedly ran into a nearby bush, leaving behind his son, Victor, who was later taken away by the kidnappers.
Another resident, Joel Owalekan, also reported that the gunmen attempted to break into his home and damaged parts of the property. He, however, managed to escape unharmed after fleeing the scene.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Kazeem said security operatives responded immediately after receiving a distress call. Officers from the police division, alongside personnel of the Amotekun Corps, launched a search-and-rescue operation to locate the abducted child.
Security teams have since intensified patrols across nearby forests and suspected escape routes as efforts continue to track down the kidnappers and secure the boy’s release.
The police also confirmed that investigations are underway, with evidence recovered from the scene to assist in identifying those behind the attack.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed tactical units and intelligence teams to intensify operations aimed at rescuing the victim and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Authorities say they are collaborating with other security agencies and local vigilante groups while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
