The family of former Minister of Power and leading APC governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan.
The incident, which has sparked fresh concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning as Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school.
According to a statement released by the family through media aide Femi Awogboro, armed men intercepted the victims and forcefully whisked them away, leaving relatives and loved ones in deep shock and distress.
The family disclosed that security agencies were immediately alerted after the incident and that rescue efforts began shortly afterward.
Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, is said to be the youngest of the Adelabu family’s five children. Before retiring last year, she worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and later with First Bank Pension Custodian. She had recently relocated to Ibadan with her twin sons while making plans to reunite with her husband in the United States.
Despite the traumatic development, the family expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to rescue the victims safely and bring those behind the abduction to justice.
They also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours or unverified reports that could interfere with ongoing rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping and assured residents that efforts are underway to secure the release of the victims.
Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade said the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and intelligence teams to the area following the report.
According to the police, the victim’s vehicle has already been recovered, while investigations and search operations have intensified.
The command also called on residents with useful information to assist security operatives by providing credible intelligence that could aid the rescue mission and help track down the kidnappers.
The latest abduction comes amid growing concerns over security in Oyo State, following recent cases of kidnappings and attacks that have heightened public anxiety across several communities.
As the search continues, family members, friends and concerned Nigerians remain hopeful for the safe return of Mrs. John-Paul and her children.
