Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has blamed Nigeria’s persistent challenges on poor leadership, accusing politicians of putting personal interests above national development.
Speaking at a youth conference in Abuja organised by Rev. Fr. John Chinenye Oluoma, Obi urged young Nigerians to become agents of change and help reshape the country’s future.
According to a statement released by his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, Obi described politicians who divert public resources for personal gain as the major obstacle to Nigeria’s progress.
“The Goliaths in Nigeria’s political landscape are politicians who divert public resources for personal gain and refuse to prioritise the country’s interests,” Obi said.
He argued that key sectors such as security, education, healthcare and electricity continue to suffer because of poor leadership and mismanagement.
The former Anambra State governor noted that concerns raised by young participants at the conference reflected the realities many Nigerians face daily, including insecurity, unemployment and limited opportunities.
Obi also advised youths to avoid living beyond their means and resist societal pressure to maintain unrealistic lifestyles.
He encouraged young people to actively participate in nation-building and take responsibility for creating positive change in their communities.
According to him, Nigeria needs courageous and visionary leaders capable of confronting the nation’s challenges and changing its direction for the better.
