Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja will improve President Bola Tinubu’s chances and boost the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the statement on Tuesday after inspecting several projects expected to be commissioned as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s second year in office.
According to the former Rivers State governor, residents of the FCT are beginning to feel the impact of governance, especially people living in satellite towns and rural communities that previously lacked major infrastructure.
“What the people want is simple. They want to feel the impact of governance,” Wike said.
The minister explained that Nigerians are more concerned about good roads, electricity, improved living conditions, and visible development than political promises.
Responding to questions about whether the projects could influence voting patterns in 2027, Wike insisted that the APC is already gaining more support in the FCT because of the administration’s performance.
“What reason would people have not to vote for Mr President now?” he asked.
“This is the first time people are seeing development extend beyond the city centre into satellite towns.”
Wike pointed to projects like the A2-Pai Road in Kwali as evidence that the current administration is focusing on communities that had been neglected for years.
He noted that it was the first time a sitting president visited the area to commission a project, describing it as a sign of inclusive development.
The minister also challenged opposition politicians and coalition groups to visit the FCT and inspect the projects being executed by the government.
“They should come and see what is happening in the FCT,” he added.
According to Wike, no fewer than 20 projects are expected to be inaugurated during the anniversary celebrations, although the number may increase as more projects approach completion.
Some of the projects inspected include the rehabilitation of the Appeal Court Complex in Dakibiyu, construction of Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, road projects in Gaduwa and Kabusa, and the relocation site for traders from Apo Mechanic Village.
Wike revealed that work on the Dakibiyu Appeal Court Complex is already about 70 percent completed, while several road projects now have streetlights, walkways, and bridges nearing completion.
At the Apo relocation site, the minister said roads and streetlights have already been completed, while work on water supply and security facilities would begin soon.
He maintained that the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to improving living conditions across both urban and rural parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
The development has since generated reactions online as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections continue to intensify.
