Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has empowered thousands of students in Abia State with educational materials under his Renewed Hope Support Programme for Education.
The intervention benefited 26 primary and secondary schools across Bende Federal Constituency in Bende Local Government Area of the state.
As part of the programme, students and schools received thousands of learning materials, including desks, chairs, school bags, textbooks, exercise books, and whiteboards.
According to reports, the items distributed include 1,000 chairs and desks, 8,000 school bags, 10,000 textbooks and exercise books, as well as 100 whiteboards.
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Bende, Kalu told the students that the initiative was designed to support their future and improve learning conditions in schools.
“You are going to be greater than me. That is why we are doing what we are doing today,” the Deputy Speaker said.
Kalu also stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to improving education and building a better future for young Nigerians through the Renewed Hope agenda.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants you to grow up in the knowledge of the Lord and also in what makes life better through education,” he added.
The Deputy Speaker explained that the programme was created to encourage students to study harder by providing them with basic educational support and a better learning environment.
“We don’t want you to be sitting on the floor again,” Kalu told the students.
He assured beneficiaries that more schools would benefit from the initiative in the future, revealing that the 26 schools selected are only the first batch.
The empowerment programme is one of several constituency projects reportedly focused on youth development and human capital investment within Bende Federal Constituency.
The development has attracted positive reactions from residents and education stakeholders, with many praising efforts aimed at improving learning conditions for students in rural communities.
