Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that the ongoing reconstruction of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt will be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2027.
The governor gave the update on Monday after inspecting the massive renovation work currently ongoing at the historic government complex located in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt.
Speaking after touring the project site, Fubara expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, especially the transformation taking place inside the buildings.
According to a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor said he returned to the site to personally verify the level of progress beyond the newly redesigned exterior already visible to the public.
“We just did a tour of the renovation of the Secretariat. I have been seeing the outer part of it wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much job is going on, most importantly, the inside,” Fubara stated.
The governor said the project is moving steadily and expressed confidence that it would be delivered on schedule.
“I think that with the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government,” he added.
Fubara also reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects across the state rather than abandoning them midway.
“Like I did promise, every job that we are handling, we will ensure that we put them to completion,” the governor said.
The Rivers State Secretariat Complex remains one of the state’s most iconic government structures. Originally built in the 1970s shortly after the creation of Rivers State in 1967, the facility houses several towering office blocks, including the famous 17-storey “Point Block,” the 10-storey “Podium Block,” and additional seven-storey buildings known as Blocks A, B and C.
The current renovation project is expected to completely modernise the aging complex through structural upgrades, redesigned office spaces, installation of modern facilities, improved utilities and technology-driven work systems aimed at creating a more efficient environment for civil servants.
The reconstruction has attracted attention across Rivers State, with many residents seeing it as one of the major infrastructure projects under Fubara’s administration.
