Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following what he described as injustice and irregularities during the party’s governorship primary election in Nasarawa State.
The former police boss, who contested for the APC governorship ticket, announced his resignation in a letter submitted to party executives in Makama Ward, Lafia, on Monday.
Adamu accused the party leadership of failing to uphold internal democracy, fairness and transparency during the conduct of the primary election, insisting that the process was manipulated against him.
According to him, the outcome of the primary did not reflect the true wishes of party members and supporters.
Before his resignation, Adamu had reportedly petitioned the APC national leadership and the party’s appeal committee, alleging that the results of the primary were altered to deny him victory.
He maintained that he legitimately won the exercise and urged the party to overturn the outcome in the interest of justice and fairness.
However, after what he described as the party’s failure to address his complaints, the former IGP decided to leave the APC entirely.
“This decision was not taken lightly,” Adamu stated.
“Recent developments within the party, especially the conduct of the governorship primary election process in Nasarawa State, have made it difficult for me to continue my political activities under the platform of the party.”
He stressed that democratic principles such as fairness, equal opportunity and transparency must guide every political party.
“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members should guide the affairs of any democratic political party,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the events surrounding the primary election did not reflect these principles and have led to a loss of confidence in the party leadership and its processes in the state.”
Adamu also disclosed that after consultations with his supporters, political allies and family members, he decided to pursue his political ambition through another platform.
The former police chief thanked party members at the ward, local government and state levels for their support during his time in the APC.
His resignation is already generating political reactions in Nasarawa State, especially ahead of the 2027 governorship race, with many now watching closely to see which political party he may join next.
