Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed reports suggesting he is seeking a vice-presidential position ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that his political ambition is focused solely on the presidency.
Amaechi made the clarification while speaking on Daily Politics on Trust TV amid growing discussions surrounding the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket and possible consensus arrangements within the party.
Reacting to speculations linking him to a vice-presidential role, the former Rivers State governor firmly rejected the claims.
“I did not buy form to be vice president. Who are all those saying that?” Amaechi queried.
He stressed that conversations about his political future should remain centred on the presidency, not the vice-presidential seat.
“Idris, the interview is about presidency. I didn’t buy form for vice president. If you want to interview a vice president, I can send them in for you,” he said.
Amaechi also spoke on the issue of consensus candidacy within the party, stating that any agreement on adopting a consensus candidate must be collectively decided by party stakeholders.
“If the party wants a consensus, let’s have a meeting. If we agree, we do it. If we don’t, we go primary,” he added.
The former minister is among prominent political figures being linked with possible presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections as political realignments continue across different parties.
