The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed confidence in regaining majority control of the National Assembly and winning the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
The party blamed its current minority position in the Senate and House of Representatives on internal crises, defections and prolonged legal battles that affected the PDP after the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
Speaking in an interview, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the party has now resolved its leadership disputes and is preparing strongly for the next election cycle.
According to him, the PDP leadership and stakeholders are determined to reposition the party through legal and political strategies aimed at restoring its strength across the country.
Mohammed explained that the party never enjoyed a stable majority at the beginning of the 10th Senate, adding that internal disagreements, court cases and uncertainty within the PDP forced several lawmakers to defect to other political parties.
However, he insisted that the opposition party is now confident of making a strong comeback ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP spokesperson also claimed that many lawmakers elected under the ruling All Progressives Congress have failed to deliver effective representation and oversight responsibilities to Nigerians.
According to him, several APC lawmakers have lost touch with their constituents and rarely engage with the people who elected them.
Mohammed stated that growing public frustration over governance and representation has created an opportunity for the PDP to regain lost ground politically.
He further expressed confidence in the quality of aspirants emerging within the party, saying the PDP would present credible candidates capable of winning elections at both legislative and presidential levels.
The party spokesman maintained that Nigerians are demanding fresh leadership and better representation, adding that the PDP believes it has the structure and candidates needed to secure victory in 2027.
He said the party remains optimistic that it will not only regain majority seats in both the Senate and House of Representatives but also reclaim the presidency.
