Member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress primary election for Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State after securing victory across all 34 wards in the constituency.
The direct primary election, held on Saturday across Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Local Government Areas, witnessed a large turnout of APC members who participated in the exercise to choose the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Results collated from the three local government areas showed overwhelming support for the incumbent lawmaker, with party officials and stakeholders describing the outcome as a clear and decisive victory.
The exercise was reportedly conducted peacefully across the constituency, with voters participating in an orderly manner while party officials supervised the process.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, who voted in Mopamuro Local Government Area, commended the conduct of the election and described the process as transparent, peaceful and credible.
According to him, party members turned out enthusiastically to participate in the primary election and freely exercise their right to choose candidates that would represent the APC during the 2027 general elections.
Fanwo disclosed that Abejide secured 892 votes in his ward, while his opponent managed to record only two votes, adding that similar voting patterns were recorded across several other wards in the constituency.
He stated that the outcome reflected the wishes of party members, stressing that APC supporters had clearly made their choice through the voting process.
Party leaders and stakeholders in Yagba East and Yagba West also linked Abejide’s overwhelming victory to his strong grassroots connection, constituency projects and continuous engagement with residents across the federal constituency.
According to them, the result demonstrated the level of support and confidence party members still have in the lawmaker based on his performance and representation at the National Assembly.
With the conclusion of voting and collation of results from all 34 wards, Abejide has now officially emerged as the APC candidate for Yagba Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party stakeholders also expressed optimism that the successful conduct of the primary and the outcome of the exercise would help strengthen unity within the APC ahead of the general elections.
