The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a 276-member National Campaign Council to spearhead its campaign ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma named as chairman.
The party also announced the creation of 12 specialised sub-committees that will coordinate different aspects of its campaign as preparations intensify for the crucial poll.
According to a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the campaign council brings together top party leaders, governors, ministers, lawmakers and other key stakeholders from across the country.
Joining Uzodimma in the leadership of the council are Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, who will serve as co-chairmen.
The party also named Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Political and Other Matters, as deputy chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will serve as secretary.
The council features several serving governors, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Monday Okpebholo (Edo) and Umaru Bago (Niger), among others.
Also included are senior government officials such as Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake, Communications Minister Bosun Tijani, and Special Advisers Sunday Dare and Bayo Onanuga.
The APC also assigned responsibilities to 12 sub-committees to ensure a coordinated campaign.
Uzodimma will also chair the Election Planning and Management Committee, while Monday Okpebholo will serve as its secretary.
The Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee will be led by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with Zacch Adedeji serving as secretary.
Other committees include Media and Publicity, chaired by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, Security, chaired by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Youth Mobilisation, headed by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, Women’s Mobilisation, chaired by Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and several others focused on logistics, protocol, grassroots mobilisation and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The party disclosed that both the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will be officially inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, in Abuja, ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The move signals the APC’s determination to mobilise its top political figures as it seeks victory in one of the country’s most closely watched off-cycle governorship elections.
