President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is making steady progress in tackling insecurity, expressing confidence that the security challenges affecting the northern region will soon come to an end.
The President gave the assurance on Saturday during the Third Late General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference held in Kaduna. He was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
While paying tribute to the late General Hassan Usman Katsina, Tinubu described the former military governor of the defunct Northern Region and former Chief of Army Staff as a patriotic leader whose dedication to national unity helped shape Nigeria’s history.
Speaking on the country’s security situation, the President said his administration remains committed to restoring peace across the nation.
“While we continue to work day and night to secure our nation, by the grace of Allah, the challenges of insecurity confronting us, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be behind us,” Tinubu said.
The President also highlighted several achievements of his administration in education, infrastructure, transportation and the power sector.
According to him, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has enabled more than one million students to access higher education through financial support.
He added that removing tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has strengthened university autonomy and contributed to improved industrial harmony.
Tinubu said the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has financed the construction of classrooms, laboratories, hostels and research facilities across the country, while new federal universities and polytechnics have also been established.
On infrastructure, the President said work is progressing on major road projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, Sokoto–Zamfara–Kaduna Road, and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road.
He also highlighted ongoing investments in the power sector, including the Kaduna Power Station, the 40-megawatt Kumbotso High Voltage Power Project, and the rehabilitation of the 215-megawatt Kaduna Power Plant.
According to Tinubu, the Federal Government is expanding access to electricity through the installation of over 1,500 solar-powered streetlights and 50 mini-grids in rural communities.
The President further announced that the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna has been upgraded to a full-fledged university named after General Hassan Usman Katsina, adding that the institution is more than 90 per cent complete and has already commenced academic activities.
On transportation, Tinubu said construction of the Kaduna–Kano Rail Line and the Kano–Maradi Rail Project is advancing steadily, while work is also ongoing to rehabilitate the Abuja Metro Rail and improve the Abuja–Kaduna train service.
He said the various projects reflect his administration’s commitment to improving security, expanding economic opportunities and accelerating national development across Nigeria.
