Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the state following the ongoing leadership crisis within the union.
The directive comes after a factional dispute within the NURTW, which began on Monday and has reportedly disrupted business activities while raising security concerns across Osun State.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, after a meeting of the State Security Council.
As part of the directive, the governor ordered the immediate suspension of the collection of levies at all motor parks across the state, along with every other activity being carried out by the union.
Governor Adeleke also instructed the police and other security agencies to arrest anyone claiming to be an official or executive of the NURTW while operating in any motor park in the state.
“I hereby direct the police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union in our parks,” the governor said.
He warned that anyone who violates the directive would be arrested and prosecuted for disturbing public peace.
“Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace,” he added.
To ensure strict enforcement of the order, Governor Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad made up of all security agencies operating in the state.
The squad is expected to monitor compliance with the directive and maintain law and order across motor parks in Osun State.
