Fresh violence has claimed the lives of two residents, including an 82-year-old man, in separate attacks on communities in Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as Demi Duda, 82, and Emmanuel Chinge, 19, while another resident sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to the Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM), the attacks occurred within a 24-hour period in different communities, raising fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the area.
The group said Emmanuel Chinge was killed on Sunday at Nche-tahu in the Nkien-whie District, while the second attack happened in the early hours of Monday in Kurudu, Jebbu Miango, where elderly resident Demi Duda was reportedly killed and another person injured.
The IYM expressed concern over the recurring attacks in Irigwe communities, alleging that persistent violence has continued to claim lives, destroy farmlands and worsen the economic hardship faced by residents.
The group called for prayers and stronger security measures to protect communities across Irigwe land and other parts of Plateau State affected by insecurity.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident, as efforts to reach the police spokesperson for comments were unsuccessful.
