Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons during an operation that foiled a planned attack on Sabarumawa community in Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out on June 27 after security operatives received credible intelligence that armed terrorists were preparing to launch an attack on the community.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops from the Chief of Army Staff’s Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly deployed to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the route the suspected terrorists were expected to use.
“Acting on credible intelligence, our troops established an ambush to prevent the planned attack. As the terrorists advanced, they were engaged with overwhelming firepower,” Danja said.
He explained that the fierce gun battle forced the terrorists into disarray, with two of the suspects neutralised, while others escaped into the surrounding forest.
Following the operation, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle, believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements threatening peace across the North-West.
Danja also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that would aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
According to him, Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist networks operating across the region.
