Meta has unveiled a new pair of smart glasses with a lower price tag, as competition in the fast-growing wearable technology market continues to heat up.
The tech giant announced that the new AI-powered glasses will start at $299, making them more affordable than its existing Ray-Ban smart glasses and other premium models in its lineup.
Developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the glasses will offer many of the same features found in Meta’s previous wearable devices but without the Ray-Ban or Oakley branding.
“We need to have a pair of glasses at a lower price point,” a Meta executive said.
The new device allows users to take photos and videos, listen to music, make calls and interact with Meta’s built-in artificial intelligence assistant.
Meta also revealed that the glasses will support live translation in 14 additional languages, further expanding their AI capabilities.
The launch comes as several major technology companies race to dominate the future of wearable computing.
Snap recently introduced its own augmented reality smart glasses, while reports suggest Apple is working on a competing product expected to arrive in the coming years.
Despite growing competition, Meta remains one of the leading players in the smart glasses market, with its wearable devices gaining popularity among consumers looking for AI-powered technology they can use on the go.
Industry watchers say the lower-priced glasses could help Meta attract more users and strengthen its position ahead of new rivals entering the market.
