The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Orire Local Government Area were transported to Kaduna State by helicopter.
The Command described the claim as false, misleading and completely unverified, urging members of the public not to spread information capable of causing panic or undermining ongoing rescue efforts.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the police said the viral video making the claim lacked any credible evidence and should not be taken seriously.
“The content of the said video is entirely false, unverified, misleading, and devoid of any factual basis.”
The Command reassured residents that security agencies are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
According to the police, intensive rescue operations are ongoing, with security and intelligence agencies collaborating closely to locate the victims and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
The police also expressed concern over what it described as deliberate attempts by some individuals to spread misinformation capable of damaging public trust in security operations.
Authorities warned that spreading false information on sensitive security matters could obstruct investigations, create unnecessary fear and negatively impact rescue efforts.
“Such actions are not only irresponsible but also capable of creating unnecessary panic, misleading the public, and obstructing security operations.”
The Command further cautioned against circulating unverified reports and stated that individuals found deliberately spreading false information could face legal consequences.
Residents were encouraged to remain calm and rely only on updates released through official and verified channels.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted children and teachers while continuing efforts to track down those behind the incident.
