Fresh controversy has emerged in Oyo State after the police disputed reports that Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, played a role in the alleged release of kidnapped victims in Igboho community.
The debate began after reports surfaced that several abducted family members regained their freedom shortly after Igboho issued a two-hour ultimatum to suspected kidnappers, demanding their release.
The development sparked celebrations in parts of the community, with videos circulating online showing residents rejoicing and welcoming back the alleged victims.
However, the Oyo State Police Command has pushed back against the claims, insisting there is no verified evidence linking the activist to any rescue operation.
According to the police, investigations are still ongoing and there has been no official confirmation that the victims were rescued through any intervention connected to Igboho.
The Command also urged members of the public to be cautious about information circulating on social media, stressing that only verified updates from security agencies should be relied upon.
The incident followed the abduction of members of a family during a reported attack by armed kidnappers, a development that generated outrage and heightened tension within the community.
While supporters of Igboho have pointed to the timing of the victims’ reported release as evidence of his influence, police authorities maintain that no operational connection has been established.
As investigations continue, questions remain over the exact circumstances surrounding the victims’ alleged freedom and who was responsible for securing it.
