Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the reported kidnapping of residents along the Vegetable Market axis of Airport Road in Benin City, describing the incident as a disturbing attack on innocent citizens and a threat to public safety.
The governor, through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, said the state government would not tolerate criminal activities capable of disrupting peace and security across Edo State.
Reacting to the incident, which occurred on Sunday, Okpebholo directed the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to immediately launch a thorough investigation and coordinate efforts aimed at rescuing the victims and tracking down those responsible for the attack.
He stressed that protecting lives and property remains a top priority of his administration, assuring residents that security agencies have been mobilised to respond swiftly to the situation.
The governor also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies, noting that timely information could assist ongoing operations and help prevent future attacks.
Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening security across the state, vowing that those behind the kidnapping would be arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.
