Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to publicly distance himself from reports linking him to a presidential ticket allegedly being promoted by a political group ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to the development, Keyamo described the move as a political drama that should not involve a former president, warning that Jonathan’s name and reputation were being dragged into a controversy he may not even be part of.
In a statement shared on his X account, the minister criticised the individuals behind the alleged endorsement, questioning their legitimacy and political relevance.
According to Keyamo, it is inappropriate for any group to attempt to hand a presidential ticket to a former Head of State without his direct involvement or consent.
“This is a bizarre comedy taken too far,” the minister said, expressing disappointment that respected political figures were being linked to what he described as an unserious political exercise.
He further questioned the standing of those behind the move, noting that they are not recognised political actors under the framework of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Keyamo argued that presenting a presidential ticket to Jonathan by proxy not only lacks credibility but also risks damaging the image of a statesman who remains respected both within and outside Nigeria.
The minister therefore called on the former president to immediately clarify his position and publicly reject any attempt to associate him with the alleged political arrangement.
“For the sake of his reputation and global image, former President Goodluck Jonathan should clearly say ‘No, thank you’ to this,” Keyamo stated.
He warned that silence on the issue could fuel unnecessary political speculation and reopen public debates about Jonathan’s time in office and the circumstances surrounding the 2015 presidential election.
The comments come amid growing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several groups and factions already making moves to position potential candidates.
As of the time of filing this report, Jonathan had not publicly responded to Keyamo’s remarks or the reports linking him to the alleged presidential ticket.
