Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged political leaders and Nigerians to approach the 2027 election season with maturity, tolerance, and a strong sense of national responsibility.
Shettima made the appeal on Wednesday shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Speaking with journalists after the prayers, the Vice President warned against divisive politics, inflammatory comments, and actions capable of threatening peace and stability in the country.
“As we enter the political phase, there is a need for maturity, forbearance and generosity of spirit in our political interactions,” Shettima said.
According to him, Nigerians must remember that national unity is more important than political differences or personal interests.
“What binds us together as Nigerians supersedes whatever divides us,” he added.
The Vice President also reassured citizens that both the Federal Government and state governments are working to ease the economic hardship currently facing Nigerians.
Shettima stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to stabilising the economy, improving security, and creating more opportunities for citizens through ongoing reforms and interventions.
“Governments at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people,” he said.
He appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting government efforts aimed at improving living conditions across the country.
The Vice President further called on citizens to continue praying for peace, stability, and unity, especially as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum.
“Let there be peace in the land. Let us continue to pray for peace not only in Borno State but in every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” Shettima stated.
He also referenced ongoing global tensions, including the crisis in the Middle East, stressing that Nigeria must avoid actions capable of causing division or instability.
The Eid prayer session was attended by several top government officials, including Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries.
Following the prayers, the deputy governor paid a Sallah visit to the Vice President at his residence in Maiduguri, where he commended Shettima for his continued support for the people and government of Borno State.
Kadafur also prayed for wisdom, strength, and good health for the Vice President as he continues supporting President Tinubu’s administration.
The Vice President’s remarks have generated conversations online as Nigerians discuss the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections.
