Achievers University has uncovered a massive alleged school fees fraud involving over ₦457 million, with both staff and students reportedly linked to the scheme.
According to the institution, an internal audit revealed that hundreds of students allegedly paid their school fees into a private bank account instead of the university’s official payment platform.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, disclosed that the fraud was discovered after a detailed review of fee payments covering the 2023/2024, 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
The university alleged that a former bursary staff member, who previously studied Accounting at the institution, hacked the school’s payment portal and diverted students’ fees into her personal account.
Reports showed that about 320 students allegedly paid a total of ₦457.5 million into the account, while their payment records were secretly cleared on the school portal without the money reaching the university.
The suspect reportedly resigned from the institution in April 2025 and is currently under police investigation.
The university also alleged that some students and staff members acted as agents by encouraging others to pay into the private account in exchange for discounts and commission rewards.
According to the school, 11 staff members, 34 students and one external collaborator linked to a Federal Medical Centre were identified during the investigation.
Achievers University said affected students would appear before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, while implicated staff members would face the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
The institution further revealed that it would continue auditing payments made by recently graduated students as part of efforts to fully uncover the extent of the alleged fraud.
The university management assured the public that updates on the investigation would be communicated transparently to prevent misinformation.
