Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says his administration has recorded major achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education and financial management within three years in office.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Umuahia, the governor revealed that his government has constructed 414 roads covering over 864 kilometres across the state.
According to Otti, many of the roads were built with streetlights and drainage systems to improve transportation and urban development.
He added that more projects are still ongoing, disclosing that another 82 roads covering over 200 kilometres are currently under construction in different parts of Abia State.
The governor also announced that his administration has reduced the state’s debt profile by nearly 60 per cent.
He explained that Abia’s debt reportedly dropped from about N191 billion in 2023 to less than N50 billion by the end of 2025.
Otti described the achievement as part of broader reforms aimed at improving fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability in government.
He further claimed that independent reports have ranked Abia among Nigeria’s best-performing states in budget transparency and financial management.
Beyond infrastructure, the governor highlighted improvements in sanitation and transportation.
He said the state now evacuates large volumes of waste weekly while creating over 2,000 jobs through the state environmental agency.
Otti also spoke about the introduction of electric buses in Abia, revealing that more buses are expected to arrive by July as the government expands its transport system.
According to him, charging stations are already being installed in Umuahia and Aba to support the electric bus initiative.
In the area of land administration, the governor disclosed that over 4,700 Certificates of Occupancy have been signed under his administration — a figure he claimed surpasses what was achieved in the state between 1999 and 2023.
He also announced the completion of a new Abia State Master Plan developed in partnership with UN-Habitat, alongside the digitisation of millions of land records.
On education and healthcare, Otti listed several reforms including the construction of smart schools, recruitment of teachers and improvements in tertiary institutions across the state.
He added that over 800 healthcare professionals have been recruited while hundreds of primary healthcare centres have been renovated and upgraded.
The governor maintained that his administration remains focused on restoring the dignity of Abia residents through infrastructure development, human capital investment and responsible governance.
