The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly denied rumours suggesting that former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, is secretly working for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview with LEADERSHIP Weekend, the party’s spokesperson, Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam, described the allegations as false and misleading.
According to him, Dickson remains fully committed to the ideals and objectives of the NDC and has no political alliance with the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abdulsalam praised the former governor as a principled politician with a long-standing reputation for defending national interest and progressive politics.
He insisted that Dickson is not acting on behalf of President Tinubu or the ruling party, adding that the senator is focused on strengthening the NDC and positioning it for victory in future elections.
The spokesperson also revealed that Dickson is currently working closely with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as part of ongoing consultations within the party.
According to him, Peter Obi is currently the only aspirant who has officially obtained and completed the party’s presidential nomination process so far.
He added that if no other candidate joins the race, Obi could automatically emerge as the party’s presidential flag bearer, while Kwankwaso may become his running mate.
The party also addressed rumours surrounding Rivers State politics, clarifying that the “Fubara” who recently joined the NDC is not Governor Siminalayi Fubara, but his brother.
Abdulsalam stated clearly that the Rivers governor has not shown any public or private interest in joining the party.
On preparations for upcoming elections, the NDC spokesperson said the party is already mobilising ahead of a by-election in Nasarawa State following the death of a senator.
He explained that the party plans to use both consensus arrangements and primary elections depending on political realities in different constituencies.
According to him, the leadership is focused on ensuring fairness and preventing internal crises as more aspirants continue to show interest in contesting under the NDC platform.
As political activities ahead of 2027 continue to intensify, the NDC says it remains focused on building a strong opposition movement while dismissing claims of any hidden alliance between Senator Seriake Dickson and the APC.
